Common Questions
Do I need to cut any pipes?
No, the Hydra-Guard device clamps to the pipe meaning no plumbing required.
Does my Hydra-Guard device need to be accessed regularly?
No, once setup it should not require intervention.
Can the device detect a dripping tap?
With the highest sensitivity the Hydra-Guard divice is able to detect a very small flow. Depending on the type of leak, the device will be able to detect a pin prick leak which starts off very small.
Will my Hydra-Guard pick up external noises and false trigger?
The device should be placed in a quite spot for maximum effectiveness. It can detect and adapt to external noises but should not be placed too close to a continuous noise source, like a central heating pump.
Does the Hydra-Guard have an audio alarm?
Yes, the Hydra-Guard has an audible alarm as well as having the ability to send SMS alerts. A local wifi connection is required for the Hydra-Guard to send SMS alerts. SMS alerts are free for the first year of owning your Hydra-Guard.
Is the SMS alert messaging service free?
Yes, for the first year, then a small annual subscription fee is required to continue receiving SMS alerts.
Where should the device be placed?
Place your Hydra-Guard device at the inlet to the property – this way all plumbing is downstream meaning it can protects the whole house.
Will it save on my water bill?
Yes, due to the Hydra-Guard device’s ability to detect small pin prick leaks, it can identify any existing leaks or continuous outflow such as a stuck ball valve or cistern, which could be leading to wasted water.
Is the Hydra-Guard as sensitive as temperature based leak detectors?
The Hydra-Guard device works on a different principle. Temperature based sensors are affected by the length of pipe work between the unit and the ground and previous legitimate water use. Hydra-Guard is unaffected by these limitations.
Is the device more sensitive if the mains is turned off when setup?
Yes, this will allow the device to detect an existing leak when the mains is turned back on.
Can I have more than one Hydra-Guard
Yes, each Hydra-Guard has a unique SSID.
Can the Hydra-Guard be used to locate a leak
Yes, the Hydra-Guard can be repositioned to determine where the leak is. It will alarm if the leak is downstream of the unit.
